# Privacy

The short version: your figures stay in your browser.

## What you type, paste or upload

Every calculation happens in your browser. Incomes, budgets, balances, envelopes and bank statement files are never sent to Cedar Ledger or anyone else. A CSV file you choose or drop is read by your browser on your device and is not uploaded. Apart from loading the site's own files, the pages make no network requests; the one exception is the page-view count described below.

## What is stored on your device

Some tools save your work in your browser's local storage so it is there next time. It stays on the device you are using and is never uploaded. These are the keys:

- **cedarledger-budget**: the monthly budget planner's lines.
- **cedarledger-networth**: the net worth lines and your dated snapshots.
- **cedarledger-envelopes**: envelopes, allocations and recorded spending.
- **cedarledger-rules**: your category rules on the spending page (transactions themselves are not stored).
- **cedarledger-currency**: the currency symbol you chose.
- **cedarledger-theme**: light or dark, if you picked one.

"Clear all" on each tool removes its saved data, and "Restore the starter rules" removes saved rules. To remove everything at once, clear this site's data in your browser settings (often under Privacy, then Cookies and site data). On a shared computer, clear it when you are done.

## Cookies, accounts and ads

There are none. There is no sign-up, no advertising and no tracking across other sites.

## Page-view counts

The site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which our host Cloudflare adds to each page, to count page views. It does not use cookies or track you across sites, and it never receives what you type into the tools or the files you open in them.

## Links to other sites

Pages link to sources such as the Federal Trade Commission, the Federal Reserve and the Bureau of Labor Statistics, to sister sites and to two recommended services, CleanTempMail and WebTraceCheck. Those sites have their own privacy policies, which apply once you follow a link.
